A few weeks ago Gorgeous and Green provided the bright and lovely floral decor for a wedding at the Brazil Room at Tilden Park in Berkeley. The building there is beautifully set amongst rolling green hills, and the building is made with a lot of dark wood, so I wanted to keep the floral decor bright and colorful.
The flowers were locally grown in half moon bay and Petaluma, and many were organically grown in Oakland too! We used a lot of spring flowers including anemones, ranunculus, leptopermum, vibernum, icelandic poppies, scabiosa, callas and sweet peas.
Below are a few pictures of the table designs, all taken from my phone, so I apologize ahead of time. Although they aren’t the best pics, they show the lovely colors! I hope to post some of the photographer’s pics on my blog as some point in the future, there was a lovely decorate Chuppah too, and many other details.

While we were there setting up the decor, we ran into a few turkeys:

I wouldn’t usually put cabbage and tropical in the same sentence.
Here’s a couple of pics of some lush tropical arrangements Gorgeous and Green created for a local restaurant, featuring organic and local cabbage, local roses and local birds of paradise. Very bright and festive.

Hello neighbors and friends!
We’ve been getting ready for the big day of love, and the opening of the Gorgeous and Green online boutique: shop
We will be open every day up to Valentines Day, including Monday (our usual day off) so please come in to find something unique and sustainable for yourself or someone else. We will have a lovely assortment of flowers for bouquets, as well as the usual suspect, the rose. All our roses will either be locally grown in Petaluma, or they will be sustainably grown and fair trade Veriflora roses. For those who can’t come in, we will have online ordering available as well as orders via phone: 510 665 7974 for local deliveries.
It’s been a long time coming, but our online shop is finally opening tomorrow February 10th 2012. We’re happy to offer our lovely selection of local and sustainably made gifts and flower arrangements to online shoppers. We have lovely sustainable arrangements and local succulent terrariums that can be delivered locally by pedal express, a local worker-owned bicycle courier ! Yes, that means your local flowers and gifts can make their way to local friends and family without emissions. For deliveries outside of the local east area, we will continue to use our carbon neutral high mpg or biodiesel vehicles. We are also offering other sustainable, locally made and eco friendly gifts and items that can be sent via USPS. We will be adding more and more lovely items in the coming months, but hope this assortment will be helpful to those seeking gifts of love for themselves or someone else.
To give you a little taste of what we will be offering online, here are a few items from the shop:

Local Calla Bouquet with local roses, succulents and greens in twig vase.
vintage earrings by local artist “the smiling cat”

Local anemones in leaf wrapped vase

Large container of seed bombs with handmade bomb slingshot

Earrings by local artist Tangleweeds, made with recycled materials
We hope to offer many new up and coming local artists and sustainably-minded artisans in the boutique, so feel free and spread the word. We love what we do and want to spread the love to others getting and giving gifts and flowers this holiday and every day. After all, we love the earth too.

More succulents and dahlias for a Bay Area wedding by Gorgeous and Green! Here’s a few pics from a wedding last weekend, here in Martinez CA at Briones park.

The bouquet is a lovely combination of local non-sprayed dahlias, local non-sprayed succulents wrapped in burlap. The bride gave me some lace to use to wrap with the burlap to match her lovely gown.

The boutonnieres and corsages were wrapped with twine and all the groomsmen got cute little crespedia.

The bridesmaids all got slightly different bouquets with local dahlias, local roses, local belladonna, etc. The colors matched their dresses which were a floral pattern with burgundy, yellow, orange, grey, brown and blue just like the bouquets.
Overall, the wedding was very local and actually very DIY. The bride ordered a large order of flowers at a discount and with her bridesmaids, created aisle and table arrangements in mason jars. For local brides looking to save money but still have a mass of lovely local flowers, I offer simple arrangement tutorials and with purchase, brides can receive a bulk discount on local flowers in season.
I hope to share more pictures from the wedding at a later date.

Here are a few sneak photos from a wedding Gorgeous and Green participated in at Flora Grubb in San Francisco on July 30th. We created the table centerpieces, bouquets and boutonnieres as well as a large 4 foot wide arrangement that hung above the wedding party table. Lots of local succulents and dahlias! It was a grand affair with the planning help of Vera Devera of Va de Vie Events. Beautiful.

Bubble cognac vase with gathered local blooms and succulents
Repurposed wood drawer with local dahlias, scabiosa pods and succulents. No floral foam was used, I have a secret trick that included more reusing….
Planted terrariums (one borrowed from Vera) are so interesting to look at and classy.

And the amazing hanging box………..

I was able to get more pics from the photographer Michelle Beckwith for the lovely DIY wedding at Stern Grove in San Francisco last year. Here are some close-up shots of the bouquet and the boutonniere Gorgeous and Green made for the bride and groom. The closeup with the bride and her bouquet is just gorgeous.

The dahlias and callas were locally grown as were the succulent rosettes, straight from Oakland. Lovely.

Here’s a post from my blog by the Knot: Simple succulent weddings. I thought I would share here as well, because my message is clear and the pictures are lovely. Succulents and simplicity abound in the world today, an in this wedding as well.
I love including succulent rosettes in bouquets and arrangements. These succulents were grown here in Oakland, and the dahlias were grown in Half Moon Bay.
I also love simple weddings like the one featured here. The client asked Gorgeous and Green to provide the bouquet and boutonnieres for the Bride and Groom, family and special friends. There wasn’t a big wedding party full of 10 bridesmaids in pink taffeta or 15 groomsmen in rented shoes. There weren’t huge crystal candelabras or 7 layer cakes. Sometimes we can do those things and try to be as sustainable as possible (rent the candelabras and taffeta) But sometimes keeping those things off the list can actually make it easier to be sustainable with the concentrated amount of decisions left to make in a more simplified wedding.
The magnificent redwoods and ferns that make the lush landscape of Stern Grove in San Francisco was plenty ceremony decor for the couple. I’ve asked the photographer for some up close shots of the bouquet, since it was so lovely, but in the mean time you can peruse these lovely shots of the couple from afar. Very romantic.
